Africa-Press – Ethiopia. Foreign Affairs Minister of Ethiopia, Gedion Timothewos highlighted the long-standing historical ties between Russia and Africa, emphasizing the importance of leveraging the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum as a platform to further the objectives of the African Union’s Agenda 2063.
A high-level Ethiopian delegation, led by the Minister, took part in the inaugural Ministerial Conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum, held from November 9–10, 2024, in Sochi, Russia.
Foreign Minister Gedion stressed the importance of strengthening economic cooperation between Africa and Russia, particularly in the fields of Foreign Direct Investment and trade.
He also emphasized the need for increased collaboration in science and technology to maximize mutual benefits.
Gedion highlighted the long-standing historical ties between Russia and Africa, emphasizing the importance of leveraging the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum as a platform to further the objectives of the African Union’s Agenda 2063.
The Minister noted that enhanced partnerships in boosting agricultural productivity, adopting emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, expanding Africa’s industrial base, and addressing climate change challenges are key areas for development.
Gedion further stated that Ethiopia welcomed the readiness of the Russian Federation to expedite a comprehensive reform at the UN and in support of Africa’s rightful permanent representation at the UN Security Council.
He also reaffirmed Ethiopia’s dedication to fostering peace and stability in the Horn of Africa.
This Ministerial Conference marked the first of its kind, building on the outcomes of the First and Second Russia-Africa Summits, in which Ethiopia participated at the highest level, according to Foreign Affairs Ministry.
On the sidelines of the Ministerial Conference, Foreign Affairs Minister Gedion engaged in bilateral discussions with several African counterparts to strengthen ties and explore cooperative opportunities.
