Africa-Press – Ethiopia. Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed held talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his first official visit to India, where the leaders discussed new avenues to deepen the strong partnership between the two countries.
The discussions focused on expanding cooperation in defense, technology transfer, capacity building, and mining, as well as enhancing collaboration in preparation for the climate conference (COP32), reflecting a mutual interest in turning political intentions into practical and fruitful cooperation for both sides.
In a post on social media, Abiy Ahmed described his meeting with Modi as an opportunity to advance bilateral relations and invest in the significant potential available between the two countries.
He stated, “Ethiopia and India share deep historical ties, strong cultural connections, and robust relations between our peoples,” emphasizing the need to build on these foundations through technology, skills, investment, sustainable development, and strengthening people-to-people ties.
The Ethiopian Prime Minister stressed that the time has come to transform the historical friendship between the two countries into a more ambitious partnership capable of creating new opportunities and achieving tangible benefits for both peoples.
Ethiopia has begun to enhance its efforts to strengthen strategic partnerships with major global powers and emerging forces, moving forward with cooperation in vital sectors essential for the long-term development and economic transformation of the country.
Ethiopia seeks to strengthen its relations with India as an emerging and leading power in the Global South, particularly in the fields of technology and defense. This visit is part of Addis Ababa’s strategy to diversify its international partnerships and attract foreign investments to support its economic development plans.
