Africa-Press – Ethiopia. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has extended his Easter best wishes to Ethiopian Christians who will celebrate the holiday tomorrow.
In his message in connection with the Easter holiday, the premier stressed that everyone who loves Ethiopia must be prepared to pay sacrifice to their country.
According to him, true love for Ethiopia demands personal sacrifice.
Today, anyone who loves Ethiopia must be prepared for sacrifice. People of the Old Testament era had also sacrificed animals, but it didn’t work. They sacrificed a thousand sheep and a thousand goats. But it didn’t work, he noted.
Accordingly, Ethiopia can be saved not by sacrificing others. But by sacrificing oneself; by sacrificing one’s own energy, time and knowledge. And also by sacrificing one’s own honor and ego, the PM elaborated.
To save Ethiopia, Abiy pointed out that we must embrace the cross — humility, reconciliation, and dialogue and sacrifice ourselves.
Just as the cross accompanied suffering, insults, scourging, and humiliation, we must also be prepared to endure future hardships, insults and suffering as we strive for peace and reconciliation.
Prime Minister Abiy emphasized that Jesus Christ’s sacrifice serves as both mediation and redemption.
For a country, people, or a nation to be saved, sacrifice is indispensable. Christ didn’t just preach love, but He also demonstrated love by sacrificing Himself on the cross.
Abiy further explained that resurrection signifies victory achieved through perseverance, preceded by judgment, condemnation, scourging, rejection, betrayal, and cosmic disturbances.
Through all this, Christ remained steadfast, like a silent lamb facing its shearers. He endured suffering with purpose and persevered for humanity’s sake.
Similarly, a nation too requires perseverance, steadfastness through hardship, judgment, insults, and betrayal, the premier underlined.
He stressed that the country needs resolute heart even when influential figures falter, or when those once close betray us.
Abiy expressed his confidence that for those who endure, Ethiopia’s resurgence is imminent and evident.
“Resurrection is hope, offering a path through trials. To those who witnessed Friday’s despair, Sunday’s triumph seemed impossible. To those who saw the sealed tomb, resurrection appeared unreachable. To those in darkness, light felt distant. Yet, history was rewritten by the Lord of history.”
The PM affirmed that Ethiopia’s “hope is near. We see Sunday even in Friday’s shadow. We are a people who perceive life beyond death, resurrection beyond the tomb. Storms and winds cannot shake us, for we know today yields to tomorrow, and death to resurrection.”
He declared that Ethiopia’s resurrection is imminent; the time of suffering is drawing to a close.
“We stand at Friday evening. After Saturday’s silence, resurrection will dawn. Many who departed will return, the misled will understand, and those who wept will rejoice. Judges will repent, accusers will scatter, and tomb-keepers will be astonished. Ethiopia will rise, inevitably,” the premier underscored.
He concluded that Ethiopia will rise and shine before the nations just as Christ’s resurrection illuminated the world.
