Africa-Press – Ethiopia. The Ethiopian Shipping and Logistics (ESL) confirmed that this year’s transportation of fertilizes will be carried out with efficient coordination and preparedness without any obstruction.
It is to be recalled that the Vice President of Prosperity Party, Adem Farah announced the commencement of transportation of fertilizers for 2016-17 Ethiopian fiscal year upon his visit to Djibouti’s Old Port (S.D.TV Port) on Thursday.
CEO of Ethiopian Shipping and Logistics, Barisso Amelo told ENA that transportation of fertilizes for this year farming season has already started in a more efficient and coordinated manner.
He recalled that the delay of transporting fertilizers during the previous year had created some obstacle on the demands and supply of the input.
Hence, he said that this year’s supply of fertilizers has been preset beforehand in accordance to the government’s directives.
Accordingly, the CEO confirmed that transporting of fertilizers for the current season has begun with full preparation and coordination based on the lessons drawn from the pervious year.
The transportation process is being carried out in collaboration with the ministry of Agriculture, railways, and other pertinent stakeholders with a great deal of coordination in order to provide the farmers with the input on time, he added.
Moreover, State Minister of Transport and Logistics, Dhenge Boru stated that agricultural development and productivity has increased at national level.
He added that the special attention paid by the government on provision of agricultural inputs played a major role for the increase in agricultural production and productivity.
According to Dhenge, efforts are being underway to double agricultural productivity during the second and middle phase of the ten years development and investment plan.
The state minister also said realizing the supply of fertilizer on time to the farmers is crucial by supporting the agriculture sector with enhanced logistics services.
He also mentioned that preparations have already been made to provide efficient logistics support for timely supply of fertilizers.
ESL also reported that more than 20, 000 Metric Tons of fertilizers earmarked for the current production year is being unloaded from ships.
Higher level government delegation led by the Ministry of Agriculture are conferring with the officials of the Government of Djibouti on accelerating the logistics network for transporting fertilizers inland to effectively preposition the consignments of fertilizers on time.
