Africa-Press – Ethiopia. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gedion Timothewos, met at his office with the Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Workneh Gebeyehu, this morning.
On the occasion, Gedion said Ethiopia attaches special importance to IGAD and will continue to strengthen its support, citing its pivotal role in the peace and stability of the region, as well as regional development and economic integration.
FM Gedion told the Executive Secretary that IGAD’s strategic goals are in line with Ethiopia’s vital interests in the region; and added that Ethiopia will continue to work more closely with IGAD.
The Minister also assured IGAD of Ethiopia’s full support for its efforts to resolve conflicts in the region.
The Executive Secretary of IGAD Workneh, on his part, commended Ethiopia for ratifying the new IGAD Treaty and urged the country to continue strengthening its crucial support and engagement with IGAD as a member state.
