Africa-Press – Ethiopia. Military attaches based in Addis Ababa have visited the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) to learn more about its benefits for the region.
The Attachés described the GERD as a key development instrument and symbol of national pride that provides multifaceted benefits not only for Ethiopia but for the entire region.

Brigadier General Abdelmajed Anas Omer, Sudanese Military Attaché, said the GERD is a pride for Africa and will strengthen neighborliness among nations across the region by providing electric light to countries including Sudan.
South Sudanese Deputy Military Attaché, Lieutenant colonel Opul Cham Ojulu on his part said, his country is one of the beneficiaries of the GERD.
He noted that the water is flowing properly to downstream countries, which shows that the dam will not harm any country.
The Deputy Attaché also said that the dam will play a significant role in facilitating the economic development of Ethiopia and other neighboring countries.
Lt. Col. Daniel Mike Juliet, Canada’s Military Representative to AU and Defense Attache to Ethiopia, Djibouti and South Sudan, said it is encouraging that the dam generates renewable energy.
He mentioning Canada’s extensive experience in renewable energy development, he commended Ethiopia’s encouraging job in managing its water resources.
Air Commodore Mackenzie Manfred, Military Attaché of Namibia, said that Ethiopians are using their own money to build a big project for the next generation, which will relieve poverty and accelerate the economic integration of other countries in the region.
Colonel Marco Podi, Italy’s military attaché, indicated that the GERD is a great and amazing project that will strengthen the relationship between the two countries and is a permanent manifestation of their cooperation.

Brigadier General Shariful Islam, Bangladesh Military Attaché, said the GERD will be a great foundation to ensure the universal prosperity of Ethiopia.
Ethiopian Defense Force Foreign Relations and Military Cooperation Director Major General Teshome Gemechu said during the visit that GERD is a huge project that integrates the region with development.
The aim of the visit is to enable the military attachés see and understand the reality of the benefits of the dam in connecting the region with development without causing significant damage to the downstream countries, he noted.
Military attaches of 47 countries and representatives of international institutions visited the grand dam.
Fully financed by the Ethiopian people, GERD is the source of national pride for Ethiopians.
