IMF Chief Arrives in Ethiopia for High-Level Engagements, Economic Talks

Africa-Press – Ethiopia. The Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva has arrived in Addis Ababa today for a two-day official visit.

Upon her arrival, Managing Director conferred with Ethiopia’s Finance Minister, Ahmed Shide, Minister of Planning and Development, Fitsum Assefa and Governor of National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE), Mamo Mihretu, it was learned.

“I am Delighted to be in Ethiopia for my first visit as IMF Managing Director. And grateful for the warm welcome, excited to discuss boosting investments, jobs, and growth with our partners,” Georgieva said in a social media post.

In her first official visit, she is expected to meet with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and other senior officials to discuss Ethiopia’s economic outlook, policy priorities, and ongoing reforms.

In addition to her official meetings, Georgieva and her delegation will visit selected social projects and hold discussions with representatives of the private sector, according to the Ministry of Finance.
