
Africa-Press – Ethiopia. Ethiopian delegation led by Minister of Irrigation and Lowlands, Aisha Mohammed conferred with the leadership of the Exim Bank of South Korea on Friday to explore ways of supporting the irrigation projects that Ethiopia has planned.
During the occasion, the Minister of Irrigation and Lowlands noted that Ethiopia has untapped potential for irrigation development.
Ethiopia has large potential of irritable lands and water.
However, the country has not yet exploited the resources effectively and efficiently so far, the minister stated, according to Ministry of Irrigation & Lowlands.
For this reason, Ethiopia is frequently affected by drought-induced impacts and floods, Aisha underscored.
She added that for the past four years, the country has been working diligently on irrigated wheat cultivation to become self-sufficient in food.
Thus, the discussion is vital in securing support from Korea Exim Bank for the construction of irrigation infrastructure in Ethiopia, it was said.
Aisha urged the Bank to continue its financial support to for constructing irrigation schemas.
For his part, Korea Exim Bank Executive Director, Hwang Ki-yeon, pledged that the Bank will continue providing support for the construction of irrigation infrastructure.
