Africa-Press – Ethiopia. Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has presented its 2016 Ethiopian Fiscal Year first quarter performance report to the House of People’s Representatives (HPR) Foreign Relations and Peace Standing Committee today.
The ministry’s activities have been effective in strengthening relations, increasing Ethiopia’s visibility, maintaining a balanced position, and increasing investment flow, the report said.
Burundi’s ratification of the Cooperative Framework Agreement on the Nile Basin, Ethiopia’s acceptance to BRICS, and the revamping of relations with the US and the EU, following the signing of the Pretoria agreement were pointed out as remarkable achievements.
Foreign Affairs State Minister Mesganu Arga said on the occasion that the results achieved during the last three months show that Ethiopia’s diplomacy is returning to its peak.
According to him, safeguarding Ethiopia’s national interests in the Red Sea area is one of the next focuses of Ethiopia’s diplomacy.
Foreign Affairs State Minister Birtukan Ayano stated on her part that the ministry has made significant strides in strengthening bilateral and multilateral relations, including constructive dialogue with neighboring countries and active participation in international forums.
HPR Standing Committee Chairman, Dima Negewo, appreciated the results achieved so far and stressed that apart from repatriating citizens, attempts should be made to protect their legal status in the host countries.
He also stressed the need to make preparations and cooperation on BRICS.
