Africa-Press – Ethiopia. Former Nigeria U-17 team coach, John Obuh, says Augustine Eguavoen is the perfect coach to take charge of the Super Eagles when they clash with the Black Stars of Ghana.
Obuh called on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to allow Eguavoen continue as coach of Nigeria’s national team ahead of the Super Eagles’ World Cup qualifying playoffs fixtures against Ghana on March 23 and 29.
Eguavoen stepped down from the Super Eagles interim coaching job immediately after Tunisia eliminated his side from the AFCON 2021 in Cameroon.
The 56-year-old reverted to his role as the Technical Director of the NFF.
“Eguavoen should be allowed to handle the Eagles since he took the challenge of taking the team to the AFCON within a short time notice and proved he could do the job by winning all the group games,” Obuh told the Guardian.
“I believe the team’s defeat by Tunisia in the Round of 16 has taught him some lessons, which will be useful during the [World Cup] qualifiers [Nigeria vs Ghana].”
