Africa-Press – Ethiopia. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed is scheduled to address the House of People’s Representatives (HPR) tomorrow regarding issues raised in President Sahlework Zewde’s opening speech to parliament last month.

The Prime Minister will brief lawmakers and respond to questions during the HPR’s fourth regular session. In attendance will be religious leaders, opposition party representatives, diplomats and other invited guests.

President Sahlework’s speech on September 28 to a joint sitting of the HPR and House of Federation highlighted the government’s performance over the past fiscal year and priorities moving forward. She stated that Ethiopia had overcome challenges and achieved economic successes in 2015 Ethiopian fiscal year.

Looking ahead, the president emphasized the government’s efforts to address security threats, high cost of living, corruption, smuggling and illegal trade.

She underscored the administration’s commitment to curbing inflation through boosting production and productivity along with monitoring fiscal and monetary policies.

Additionally, President Sahlework announced plans for a nationwide public consultation aimed at reconciliation, forging consensus and laying the foundation for a stable, unified state.

She described the upcoming dialogue as a historic opportunity to “correct what is lost, reconcile what we disagree with, repair what is broken, straighten what is crooked, and bring forward what is apart.”

The prime minister’s address tomorrow is expected to provide further details and responses to the priorities and initiatives outlined in the president’s landmark opening speech to parliament.
