Prime Minister of Guinea Calls for African-Led Agricultural Development to Tackle Hunger

Africa-Press – Ethiopia. Prime Minister Mamadou Oury Bah of the Republic of Guinea urged African nations to prioritize self-reliant agricultural development as the most sustainable solution to ending hunger on the continent.

Speaking at the World With Out Hunger conference in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Bah expressed disappointment over African leaders turning to external sources for food aid, emphasizing that African nations should instead invest in building their agricultural capacities.

He emphasized the importance of using current scientific and technical advances to develop African agriculture and foster resilience.

Prime Minister Bah highlighted key areas where Guinea is leading efforts to increase self-sufficiency.

Guinea has embarked on a major mineral project aimed at transforming its resource wealth into an agro-industrial economy, moving away from dependency on single-resource revenues.

This initiative is part of Guinea’s broader goal to diversify its economy and align with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Concluding his remarks, Bah reiterated the importance of a unified approach to addressing Africa’s challenges, envisioning a future where Africa can independently meet the needs of its people.

The World Without Hunger Conference, themed “A World Without Hunger is Possible,” brought together over 1,500 key stakeholders—including heads of state, government officials, UN agencies, private sector representatives, and civil society leaders—to address one of humanity’s most pressing challenges.

The event, organized by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the African Union Commission (AUC), and the Ethiopian government, with support from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), features solution-focused sessions, an investment forum, and a high-level political forum to foster coordinated, impactful action toward a hunger-free world.
