Africa-Press – Ethiopia. Singapore’s Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong said that there is scope for Singapore and Ethiopia to serve as gateways to enhance links between Southeast Asia and Africa.
PM Wong made the remark in his toast speech at the official dinner in honour of Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
He said Singapore-based companies are interested to expand their operations in Ethiopia in the agriculture, logistics and aircraft maintenance sectors.
“And, as hubs to our respective regions, there is scope for Singapore and Ethiopia to serve as gateways to enhance links between Southeast Asia and Africa, Wong affirmed.
Prime Minister Abiy and I are committed to take the bilateral relationship to greater heights, he said, adding “We have agreed to establish bilateral consultations between our foreign ministries to review and explore new areas of cooperation.”
The countries are also exploring the possibility of cooperation in new areas like transport, connectivity, digitalization, and capacity-building issues.
“We’re inspired to come and to visit your country for one reason, which is political continuity and economic continuity. In Africa in general and Ethiopia in particular the biggest challenge we have is on continuity, ” Prime Minister Abiy said for his part.
The two leaders discussed ways of enhance bilateral relations between Ethiopia and Singapore, according to Singapore’s Foreign Ministry.
Both prime ministers also committed to deepening their bilateral ties. The meeting between the two leaders coincides with the 55th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two sides.
