Africa-Press – Ethiopia. The Government of the United States has been supporting Egypt in its effort to halt the construction of GERD and destabilize Ethiopia, the Middle East Affairs expert Ustaz Jemal noted.
In an exclusive interview with ENA, the Middle East Affairs expert Ustaz Jemal Beshir said it is a blatant fact that the U.S is helping Egypt more than any other country in halting the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) by any means, including the fueling of internal conflicts, to destabilize the nation.
For the Unites States of America, “Egypt is a strategic ally country in the region. Regardless of the means they are using, the aim is to please Egypt. This is the reality Ethiopians and friends of Ethiopia should know,” Ustaz Jemal stressed.
According to the expert, “anything the Government of USA does against Ethiopia is related to the grand dam. So, we have to work hard to realize the GERD at all cost.”
The Government of Sudan knows well that the dam is crucial to reduce flood, among other benefits. That was why the stand of Sudan before the meddling of Egypt regarding the GERD was in support of Ethiopia, the expert elaborated.
However, Egypt created rift between Sudan and Ethiopia and within themselves by supporting internal factions in both nations.
“Egypt always works to halt the construction of the GERD and the future development of Ethiopia as well,” Ustaz Jemal underlined.
Regarding the recent massive movement and mobilization by activists, journalists and rights advocates from East Africa and the whole continent against the Western pressure on Ethiopia, the expert said African brothers and sisters have been repeatedly witnessing that Ethiopia is the mother of Africa.
“Africans know that Ethiopia is the symbol of independence for the people of the continent and black people. I think most of the African nations will work for the interest of Ethiopia and to see a stable Horn of Africa and the continent in general.”
Ethiopians will never accept any interference in the affairs of their motherland, he stressed.
“Ethiopia will definitely overcome the current challenge by itself because such kinds of problem are not new for the nation. As usual, Ethiopians will overcome and pass hurdle as well.”
