Ultimate Goal of Medemer Lasting Peace, Solidarity and Development in Ethiopia: Panelists

Africa-Press – Ethiopia. The origin and ultimate goal of Medemer, a political and economic thought of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, is lasting peace, solidarity and development in Ethiopia and beyond, panelists noted.

A one-day panel discussion organized by the Ethiopian News Agency (ENA), in collaboration with the Dire Dawa City Administration, was held under the theme “Medemer for Regional Prosperity” today.

Presenting his perspective at the panel on the role of Medemer for nation-state building and peaceful prosperity, Peace State Minister Taye Dendea said the thought is vital for a nation state building and holistic prosperity.

Noting that Medemer has originated from indigenous knowledge, the minister said that this is important in building sustainable peace.

According to him, the origin of the idea of Medemer and its end goals are essentially lasting peace, solidarity, and development.

In this regard, the effort to ensure lasting peace in Ethiopia cannot be left to a body as it requires the joint struggle of the generation.

Thus, every citizen should actively participate to ensure national development by building lasting peace, he pointed out.

The other panelist, Ethiopian Petroleum and Energy Authority Director-General Sahrela Abdullahi said on her part that Ethiopia, based on the idea of Medemer, has been expanding infrastructure for regional connectivity.

Medemer, according to her, demonstrates the need for standing together for mutual development.

The director-general pointed out that Ethiopia is working to connect the East Africa region through road, energy, and other infrastructures.

She cited as an example the Dire Dawa Free Trade Zone, which is located about 450 km east of the capital Addis Ababa, and 320 km southwest of Djibouti Port.

In this regard, she stated that the Dire Dawa Free Trade Zone has brought additional opportunities for regional integration.

This endeavor has allowed Ethiopia to create ties based on cooperation rather than competition with neighboring countries.
