Africa-Press – Gambia. Lawyer Ousainou Darboe, in an impassioned victory speech as the newly elected flagbearer of the United Democratic Party (UDP), called on party members and supporters to set aside personal differences and unite for the collective goal of national transformation.
“Now is the time to focus on bringing about the change that The Gambia so desperately needs,” Darboe urged, emphasizing that the party must recommit to its core values and agenda while remaining steadfast in service to the Gambian people.
Darboe stressed that reconciliation within the party and among supporters is crucial. He encouraged members to engage in constructive dialogue, highlighting that disputes between individuals should never escalate into divisions that weaken the party’s collective strength.
“Arguments between family members must not become forces that divide us. All misunderstandings between people of good will can and should be resolved through dialogue and concession,” he stated.
Addressing the youth, Darboe emphasized the need for respect and discipline in both speech and conduct. He called on young people to refrain from criticizing or mocking leaders on social media, urging them instead to honor their elders and party leadership. “You must respect your leaders and elders,” he said.
Darboe expressed confidence that a united and focused UDP can drive the change the country requires. He highlighted that by putting The Gambia first, the party can restore national dignity and foster a future grounded in justice, opportunity, and progress.
In a message of gratitude, Darboe thanked his fellow contenders for their dedication to the party and acknowledged the trust placed in him by members.
“Today, I stand before you as the flagbearer of the United Democratic Party (UDP), and I am humbled by the confidence, trust, and responsibility that you have bestowed upon me to carry forward our battle for a better Gambia,” Darboe said.
