Omar Ceesay: GDC Prepared for 2026 Election Coalition

Africa-Press – Gambia. Former National Assembly Member for Niamina East and senior member of the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC), Hon. Omar Ceesay, has declared that the party is fully prepared to contest the 2026 presidential election, with Hon. Mama Kandeh serving as its flagbearer.

Ceesay noted that while the GDC is ready to run independently, the party remains open to forming coalition alliances with other opposition parties—provided that such partnerships are based on fairness and equality.

“The Gambia Democratic Party (GDC) is prepared to participate in the upcoming presidential elections scheduled for 2026, with Hon. Kandeh as our standard bearer. However, we are also open to forming political partnerships (coalitions) on equal terms with fellow opposition players,” he said.

He emphasized that the GDC’s position goes beyond political rhetoric, reflecting its genuine commitment to peace, national unity, and the transformative change Gambians have long hoped for.

“This open-door policy is not just symbolic; it aims to play a constructive role in promoting shared values and principles, fostering peace and stability, and, above all, delivering the much-anticipated change that every Gambian desires,” Ceesay stated.

He further described the GDC’s inclusive approach as both symbolic and strategic, aimed at strengthening cooperation among political actors and enhancing national cohesion. “This approach is both symbolic and strategic, designed to strengthen ties between parties and promote high levels of unity among all political players and the general electorate,” he added.
