Calls on Kombo Darsilameh Residents to Vote for “Better Change”

Africa-Press – Gambia. Opposition leader Ebrima Tabora Manneh of the People’s Alliance Party (PAP) on Sunday urged residents of Kombo Darsilameh to support his presidential bid, pledging to deliver what he described as “better change” for Gambians ahead of the 2026 elections.

Mr. Manneh visited the community ahead of a major rally held later in the evening, where hundreds of supporters gathered to welcome him. Some expressed confidence in his leadership, stating they were ready to “buy brooms to sweep the road to the State House.”

Women in the community described Mr. Manneh as respectful and humble, saying he understands the needs of the country. They pledged their support, insisting they would stand by him until he wins, and described him as a solution to the challenges facing Gambians.

Residents raised concerns about the rising cost of living, saying life has become increasingly difficult for both women and youths. They noted that economic hardship has made basic goals such as marriage and starting families difficult to achieve.

A supporter identified as Sheriff addressed the crowd, dismissing claims that large sums of money were being distributed to citizens. “I heard they are saying they are giving D50 million, which is a lie. If you share that money among 30,000 women, each person will only get about D300. Let them not fool you with that,” he said.

He added that women and youths suffer the most, linking youth migration through the “backway” to lack of empowerment and opportunities. He also criticised the current administration, citing corruption and poor conditions in public services, particularly education.

“Their children attend good schools while ours go to government schools with no teachers. I am a teacher and I know what is happening on the ground. Salaries are delayed and everything is expensive,” he said.

Addressing the crowd, Mr. Manneh urged citizens to prepare for voter registration and participate fully in the upcoming elections. “This year is an election year. Go and register for your voter’s card and vote for better change,” he said.

He pledged that, if elected, his government would promote fairness, dignity, peace, and respect for all Gambians, urging voters not to be influenced by money but to choose leadership based on integrity and national development.

Mr. Manneh concluded by calling on citizens to believe in themselves and work together to restore the country’s dignity.
