Africa-Press – Gambia. The National Assembly Member (NAM) for Foni Jarrol, Kebba Tumanding Sanneh, has reaffirmed his loyalty to former President Yahya Jammeh.
He was quick to accuse current President Adama Barrow’s administration of failing to meet the expectations of Gambian citizens.
In an interview with this medium, Mr. Sanneh praised the former leader’s governance style, stating that Jammeh prioritised security, law enforcement and national development during his tenure.
According to the lawmaker, the previous administration maintained stricter measures against crime, which he claimed contributed to reduced incidents of violent offences compared to the current situation.
Mr. Sanneh also criticised the Barrow government over rising living costs and economic challenges, arguing that increasing prices of basic commodities and governance concerns influenced his continued allegiance to the Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC).
“I was not satisfied with President Barrow’s leadership and governance. I belong to APRC and will remain loyal,” he said.
The Foni Jarrol legislator maintained that loyalty to Jammeh among representatives from the Foni region was not based on tribal considerations but rather on what he described as recognition of the former president’s contributions to education, healthcare and infrastructural development.
While acknowledging that Jammeh made mistakes during his rule, Mr. Sanneh argued that the former leader’s achievements should also be recognised.
He further expressed concern over issues such as irregular migration, robbery and other criminal activities, which he attributed to inadequate government response.
Hon. Sanneh urged the authorities to adopt stronger strategies to address these challenges, warning that public dissatisfaction could affect political outcomes in future elections.
