Africa-Press – Gambia. Ousainou Darboe, the presidential candidate of the opposition United Democratic Party (UDP) has called on Gambians to challenge what he described as a culture of impunity while urging citizens to support political change ahead of upcoming elections.
Speaking during a meeting with party supporters in Gunjur, Kombo South, Darboe said resisting a system where public officials were not held accountable for wrongdoing was a civic obligation.
He accused the current administration of failing to address key national priorities and alleged that several sectors, including agriculture and education, had been neglected, affecting the broader population.
“The president who does not serve the interests of the electorate should not be trusted to govern,” Darboe said, adding that opposing the re-election of such a government was the responsibility of citizens.
The UDP leader also alleged mismanagement of state resources under President Adama Barrow’s administration, claiming that credible evidence pointed to misuse by certain officials. He said government responded by dismissing such allegations as “individual opinions” which undermined public trust.
Darboe urged citizens to mobilise their efforts to unseat the incumbent leadership, expressing confidence that voters would seek change in the next presidential election.
