Africa-Press – Gambia. Senior officials from the Ministry of Public Service (MoPS) conducted a three-day monitoring visit from Thursday, 12 to Saturday, 14 January 2026, to supervisors and data collectors involved in the civil service and pensioner verification exercise across four regions: North Bank Region, Lower River Region, Central River Region, and Upper River Region.

The delegation was led by Sheriff Jallow, Permanent Secretary (Reforms) at MoPS, accompanied by Musa Cham, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Personnel Management Office (PMO), and Alhagie Jallow, Director of Reforms and Project Manager for the Human Resource Management Information System (HRMIS) at MoPS.

During the visit, officials interacted with verifiers in both the northern and southern parts of the regions, urging supervisors and data collectors to adhere to the established verification procedures strictly. The exercise is intended to ensure accurate records of civil servants and pensioners and to identify ghost workers.

“The exercise aims at building a more accountable and capable Gambian civil service. It also helps our ministry detect ghost workers. We reaffirm our commitment to supporting government institutions in developing data-driven human resource systems,” the officials said.

The MoPS team gathered first-hand information on the verification process and challenges faced by field staff. Officials expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the exercise, noting that verifiers were performing their duties diligently at the verification sites. They also encouraged supervisors and their teams to remain at their cluster centers to verify those who have not yet participated.

According to the officials, there was a high turnout of civil servants and pensioners at the verification venues, demonstrating strong commitment and eagerness to participate in the exercise.

They emphasized that the exercise forms part of MoPS’s broader agenda to establish a transparent, efficient, and productive civil service capable of delivering quality services to Gambian citizens.
