Africa-Press – Gambia. The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) has clarified its position regarding recent media reports and public speculation about a possible international match between the senior national teams of The Gambia and Senegal.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Federation said its General Secretary did not describe reports of the proposed match as false.
According to the GFF, when contacted by a reporter from The Point newspaper, the General Secretary maintained the Federation’s standard protocol on sensitive negotiations, stating that he could “neither confirm nor deny” the reports at the time.
The statement added that the General Secretary advised the media to rely on the Federation’s official communication channels for verified information.
The Federation further informed the public and the football fraternity that it is engaged in high-level consultations with the competent authorities, including the Government of The Gambia, on the matter.
It noted that the consultations are aimed at ensuring that all logistical, administrative and bilateral requirements are adequately addressed.
The GFF urged the public and the media to exercise patience and refrain from disseminating unverified information.
It stated that a formal announcement would be made through its official platforms once a final decision is reached and all necessary formalities are concluded.
