39 Candidates Selected in Gambia-Spain Labor Migration Initiative

Africa-Press – Gambia. Dr. Ismaila Ceesay, Minister of Information, has announced that 39 candidates out of 116 interviewed have been selected under the Gambia-Spain labor agreement. These individuals were chosen from a shortlist of 1,050 applicants, which itself was drawn from a pool of 10,111 initial applicants.

Dr. Ceesay explained that approximately 10% of the total applicants were shortlisted based on the submission of authentic documentation, including a valid passport with at least one year of validity, a certificate of character, and a medical certificate. Priority was given to applicants with agricultural experience—particularly in fruit gardening—with relevant certification, as well as those who are married with children. The eligible age range for applicants is between 25 and 50 years.

“That’s about 10%. The applicants shortlisted were those who had submitted the following authentic documents: a valid passport for at least one year, a certificate of character, and a medical certificate. The ministry has also considered those who have experience in agriculture, especially in fruit gardening, with a certificate attached, and those married with children. The age limit is from 25 to 50 years.

“The total number of applicants to be selected is 350 persons at the moment. The fourth phase of the interview was conducted. The total number of applicants interviewed was 116 persons. Out of these, 39 persons have been selected, the certificate of character and the medical certificates of the successful applicants have been submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for translation to Spanish and to be authenticated,” Dr. Ceesay said.

Dr. Ceesay also clarified that the selected candidates include both men and women, though the exact breakdown by gender is yet to be confirmed by Spanish authorities. He noted that interviews were conducted by three panels: one based in Spain via video link, another at the Spanish Embassy, and the third in Banjul.

“We are informed that a number of women were also selected, but we are yet to receive the details of the selection from the Spanish. The interview will continue when we receive more requests from Spanish authorities. The interview was conducted by three panels, one in Spain by video, one in this Spanish Embassy, and one in Banjul,” he concluded.
