The Airtel Africa Foundation has unveiled its ‘Tech For Her’ initiative, a transformative program aimed at equipping young women in Zambia, Uganda, and Kenya with high-demand digital skills. This initiative seeks to address the gender gap in the technology sector and promote greater female participation in the digital economy.
Program Overview
The ‘Tech For Her’ program is a five-week intensive online training initiative focusing on three core areas: Linux Administration, Cybersecurity, and Data Analytics. Participants will engage in over 100 hours of guided learning, delivered through a flexible model that accommodates both working professionals and full-time students. Weekend sessions are available for employed individuals, while weekday classes cater to those not in full-time employment.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the program, candidates must meet the following criteria:
Women aged 18–40 years
Possess basic digital literacy
Hold a minimum of a national diploma or its equivalent in Science, Technology, or a related field
Support and Opportunities
Graduates of the program will receive 12 months of continuous skill development support. Top performers, achieving scores of 90% or higher, will qualify for internship opportunities at Airtel Africa and structured mentorship from technology industry leaders. The program also reserves 30% of training participant slots for women in rural and underserved communities, while 40% of training seats prioritize applicants from low-income households.

Dr. Segun Ogunsanya, Chair of Airtel Africa Foundation, emphasized the importance of gender equity in Africa’s digital transformation: “Africa’s digital revolution cannot reach its full potential without gender equity. The ‘Tech For Her’ program helps to level the playing field by providing women with industry-relevant skills, mentorship, and pathways to high-growth tech roles around the world. By investing in Africa’s women, we are investing in sustainable economic transformation.”
Annika Poutiainen, a member of the Foundation’s committee, added: “At Airtel Africa, we are actively working to advance women in technology roles, and we are committed to a future where young women can be at the forefront of innovation. In running this program, Airtel Africa Foundation is creating a pipeline of female tech leaders who will help unlock the vast digital opportunities both at home, in Africa, and further afield.”
