Africa-Press – Gambia. AJ Soccer FC twice came from behind to secure a 2-2 draw against Niani FC in a fiercely contested playoff clash for promotion to the Gambia Football Federation (GFF) national second division league. The match, played on Monday at the Live Your Dreams Academy Field in Basori, marked the second fixture of the triangular qualifiers featuring regional teams.
Niani FC made an early statement when Muctarr Sanneh opened the scoring in the fifth minute with a towering header. But AJ Soccer responded almost immediately, with Amadou Ceesay drawing them level just two minutes later to send both teams into the break locked at 1-1.
Niani FC regained the lead in the 58th minute through substitute Salieu Ceesay, who scored with his first touch after being introduced in the second half. However, AJ Soccer showed resilience once more, with Suwaibou Camara firing home an equaliser seven minutes later to earn his side a vital point.
The result leaves both teams still in contention in the triangular playoff, which determines promotion from the provincial leagues to the second tier of Gambian football.
Niani FC will return to action on Wednesday, 30th July 2025, when they face North Star FC from the North Bank Region in their final playoff match at the same Basori venue.
