Aspiring parliamentary candidate vows to address women, other issues

Africa-Press – Gambia. He stated that the issues mentioned above are part of his key priorities if elected as a member of parliament in the forthcoming parliamentary election slated for 9th April 2022.

Mr Njai is currently the city representative for the International Society of City and Regional Planners, an international organisation of Urban and City Planners.

He is also a senior member of the Banjul Red Cross Society, and was in 2020 appointed Global Peace Ambassador by Peace Chain, an International Peace Body. Njai who aims to contest for the Banjul Central seat as an independent candidate is also a member of the World Youth Alliance.

Aside social and charity work, Mr. Njai is also an established young entrepreneur. He was featured by the EU Tekki-fii project as one of the thriving and outstanding youth business people. He represented his company (Jabana) at the recent Cairo Business Summit in Egypt; and was among few young business people among the world, through which he is currently helping create avenues for international employment for youth. Njai said he intends to address better representation saying: “I will represent the constituency in the best interest of the common good.” On women:

Women remain to be the building block of our society, Banjul Central women remain committed, steadfast and perseverance in their quest to contribute in the socio-economics of the constituency. Supporting them in their entrepreneurial mindsets and the solidification of their businesses would empower them to utilise their skills in continuing to take the responsibility of innovation. Constituency revolving loan funds will be created for the women with the right financial literacy skills to harness their branding, marketing and general management skills to add value in their products. They would be supported in skill acquisition to be more productive in their society to improve their livelihoods. Legislation:

One of the most primary functions of a parliamentarian remains to be the making, repealing, regulating, authorising, or even to enact laws to suit societies. I am aware of the significant importance this factor has towardsmaking the country peaceful, harmonious, supportive, and accommodating for the general welfare of the society. If elected as your parliamentarian, I would partake in decision making to solve your problems through consultation with my constituency, based on their aspirations. Promoting public participation in decision making remains the orientation in which I want to serve. I am committed in advocating for the resurrections of the draft constitution, further reviewing itto replace the current 1997 Constitution. This is geared towards promoting the country’s governance system.

Scrutiny: Parliamentary oversight is one of the three core democratic roles of parliamentarians. As an aspiring candidate, I am committed and focused in executing my oversight function independently based on the public needs. Scrutinising the government budget as related to financial and operational integrity. Parliamentarian has a binding responsibility in assessing and advising the Executive branch to follow the rules related to financial operations, and for the government to openly report to parliament on its exercise of the Executive powers and public resources granted. I am resolute in my determination, to scrutinise and remain vigilant in the best interest of all Gambians especially during: budgeting, debt management, expenditure operations, and financial resources.
