Author Alpha Jobe Urges Young Writers to be Consistent

Africa-Press – Gambia. A young Gambian author, poet and essayist, Alpha Jobe has spoken about his journey as a young writer with plans to expand and expose his talents to the outside world.

The rising author, who recently bagged a spot as one of the winners in the Immerse Education Essay contest staged in the UK, remains up to the task and ready to the make it the world.

A student at University of The Gambia, Alpha is also the assistant secretary general of the Young Writers Association of The Gambia (YWAG).

In an exclusive interview with The Point, Alpha talked about his love for writing and that some of his writing is on issues of public concern such as the need to promote quality education in the country’s education system.

“The rationale behind this essay that education is key to the success of any nation; the success of any nation depends on the type of education they offer the young people in that country. I understand that we have lots of knots in the education system. That’s why I anchored my essay on education.” he averred.

Commenting on his recent achievement being a participant in the just concluded Essay contest staged in the UK. he stated; “I feel very happy to become the first Gambian to participate in such competition and win. This achievement is not for me only but for the entire Gambia at large. It has uplifted Gambian literature to the highest height.”

Meanwhile, his journey has not been a bed of roses. Alpha who hails from an underprivileged background, remains determined as a young Gambian who aspires for greatness and to leave a mark on the country’s literary space and the world at large.

As one of the winners of the Immerse Education Essay competition, Alpha secured a partial scholarship to study certain programmes at either Cambridge or Oxford University. However, he could not cover the other expenses and thus failed to attend.

Considering the lesson he has learnt, even if little, he has an admonition for fellow young writers and those who aspire to become one.

“Let them be committed and consistent in what they do. Let them be original and do away with Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools. ”
