Africa-Press – Gambia. The Brikama Area Council (BAC) has commissioned a new fleet of waste management vehicles purchased under the “Seneyaa” (Mandinka word for cleanness) project.

The “Seneya” project is a waste collection initiative launched by the Brikama Area Council (BAC) under the leadership of Yankuba Darboe. It aims to improve waste management in the West Coast Region by partnering with private waste collection companies to provide regular and efficient service to residents.

The project was initiated to address the challenges of waste management faced by many households, commercial, and industrial entities in the region.

Reaffirming his commitment to the initiative, the BAC Chairman on Monday welcomed five (5) garbage trucks, two (2) opened trucks, one (1) skip bin loader, and one (1) sovel loader purchased from Espace Motors.

During the launch of the project two years ago, Darboe described Brikama as the most waste-producing region of The Gambia, stating that unfortunately until now the region continues to struggle for an effective sustainable solution to the issue of waste management in the region.

He said the situation compelled many of the residents to resort to dumping waste at any available space convenient to them, which was a big threat to the environment.

He pointed out that the issue of waste management had been among the top priority issues they have dedicated their time in the council to find a sustainable solution in the shortest possible period.
