Africa-Press – Gambia. Ousainou Bai Sankareh, a former member and recent defector from the National People’s Party (NPP), has officially rejoined the party and issued a public apology to President Adama Barrow and NPP Administrative Secretary Seedy Ceesay.
Speaking at an NPP women’s rally held on Saturday in Janjanbureh, Sankareh declared his renewed allegiance to the ruling party, stating: “I have returned to my home—the National People’s Party—and I am here to stay.”
Sankareh expressed remorse for his past actions and criticism, saying:
“There are elders here who have followed me closely since I left. I have come to seek forgiveness from President Barrow. I also extend my apology to Seedy Ceesay, whom I criticized publicly.”
Referring to recent political speculation surrounding his name, Sankareh acknowledged the controversy but called for unity moving forward. He also issued a bold political challenge ahead of the 2026 election: “To the newcomers in the party—I will work alongside you. Come 2026, anyone who believes in their political strength is free to contest.”
In May 2025, Sankareh had announced the formation of a new political party, the National Democracy Party (NDP), claiming it was established by himself and other disaffected NPP members. His return signals a significant political reversal.
