Africa-Press – Gambia. The Minister of Youth and Sports, Bakary Y. Badjie, has been elected to serve on the UNESCO Fund Approval Committee for Anti-Doping in Sport, representing Africa at the 10th Conference of Parties (COP 10).

“I’m deeply honored to have been elected at the COP 10 convention to serve on the UNESCO Fund Approval Committee for Anti-Doping in Sport – sitting in for The Gambia as Africa’s representative,” Minister Badjie said.

He explained that the six-member committee plays a key role in reviewing funding proposals from countries, research bodies, academic institutions, and other organizations, as well as making strategic decisions on anti-doping initiatives worldwide.

“My election to this two-year term allows me to contribute to global efforts that promote fair play, integrity, and clean sport—values that The Gambia continues to champion on the international stage,” he added.

Minister Badjie expressed his commitment to working closely with colleagues from across the globe to advance anti-doping education and strengthen ethical practices in sport. “Working together with colleagues from across the world, I look forward to ensuring that global anti-doping initiatives, including educational programs, continue to empower athletes and strengthen ethical sport practices globally,” he said.

He also extended gratitude to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and The Gambia’s Ambassador to France and Representative at UNESCO for their collective support.

“I wish to extend appreciation to the staff of the Ministry of Youth & Sports and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, especially our Ambassador in France and Rep at UNESCO, for the support and campaign put in place in recent months leading to this achievement for The Gambia,” he concluded.
