Africa-Press – Gambia. President Adama Barrow has dismissed United Democratic Party (UDP) leader Ousainou Darboe’s recent call for a coalition with parties outside the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) alliance, describing it as an expression of frustration.
“When I heard this, I recalled a Sarahule saying: when someone is frustrated, the person spits. He is frustrated; that’s why he said that,” President Barrow remarked.
Speaking at his residence in Mankamang Kunda during a meeting with residents from Foni, President Barrow added, “In 2021, I knocked him, and he fell down, but this time when I knock him, he will not come back.”
President Barrow said he heard Darboe claim that there is no blood in hospitals and that doctors sell it. In response, the president explained that blood is donated, not imported from Europe, and suggested that Darboe should ask his supporters to donate blood to make it more readily available. “Let him tell his supporters to donate blood at hospitals—that would make it easier,” he said.
With Gambia’s presidential election set for December 2026, political tensions are already intensifying as rival leaders exchange sharp words ahead of the polls.
