Road construction is part of President Barrow’s overall development agenda. The president aims to provide each community with road infrastructure that will allow them to begin their development, said the minister.

“The construction of Package 3 is entrusted to the Chinese company that built the roads and bridges in the Upper River Region,” he said. “The work is progressing very quickly and we hope that these works will be delivered to us within the next two months. »

In Kemoto, the minister said Package 2 of the Kiang West Road project has been awarded to Gai Construction, which has done an “excellent job”, and he therefore hopes that the sealing of the remaining sections of the road will begin soon for Good.

Kemoto is a very important fishing community which could have contributed enormously to the country’s economy if the road infrastructure had been of good quality,” revealed the Minister of Public Works, adding that “this is the first time in the history of this region that we build this type of road. »

He also highlighted that the community has made a request for an extension of the road to the river docking site to allow boats to anchor nearby. He said the community’s request would be taken into account.

Sulayman Sumareh Janneh, Deputy Director General of the National Roads Authority (NRA), thanked the Minister of Works and President Barrow for their vision of road infrastructure as a fundamental element of national development. He said “one of the most important aspects” of the project is the schedule.

“We have seen enormous progress in the short time frame given,” he revealed, adding “We have noticed that many Gambian entrepreneurs are participating at a very high and impressive level, competing with international entrepreneurs. This is a change and gone are the days when road construction works took forever but were never completed in the country. »

Accompanied by officials from his ministry and the National Roads Agency (NRA), the minister visited the Kabada, Sankandi-Kemoto, Kalagi Kamangka and Dasilamin Singajore road projects.
