Barrow Reaffirms Commitment to Governance Reform

Africa-Press – Gambia. President Adama Barrow has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to governance reform in The Gambia, citing significant strides made in transitional justice and national development planning.

Speaking at the official launch of the inaugural Sahel Governance Forum, President Barrow stated that The Gambia has “taken bold steps to build forward better,” underscoring his government’s efforts to strengthen democratic governance and institutional accountability.

He highlighted the government’s response to the recommendations of the Truth, Reconciliation, and Reparations Commission (TRRC) as a key example. Of the 265 recommendations presented in the TRRC White Paper, Barrow said his administration accepted 263, adding that implementation is ongoing.

“And we have since embarked on their gradual implementation. These actions reflect our resolve to confront the past with honesty and build a future grounded in justice, accountability, and reconciliation,” he noted.

President Barrow also spotlighted the launch of the Green Recovery-Focused National Development Plan (2023-2027), known as YIRIWAA, which sets forth an ambitious vision for a resilient, inclusive, and sustainable Gambia. He described the plan’s pillars as both strategic policy priorities and a comprehensive roadmap for transformative national development.

He emphasized that at the center of this vision is a strong commitment to good governance and peacebuilding—acknowledging that without trust, justice, and inclusion, genuine and lasting development cannot be achieved.
