Africa-Press – Gambia. President Adama Barrow has criticized speakers at a joint Basse and Jimara constituency meeting in Sanunding for focusing solely on new demands while disregarding the development projects already delivered under his administration.
Addressing the gathering, President Barrow said it was important for communities to recognize existing achievements before requesting additional projects.
“Let us talk about the works done first, then we can ask for more. But the speakers only asked for what they want, without acknowledging the development that has already taken place,” he remarked.
The president expressed disappointment that speakers failed to mention the roads and boreholes constructed in the area, instead repeatedly calling for more road projects.
He highlighted a major school project built in Sanunding, comprising 18 classrooms, 15 toilets, and 10 teacher’s quarters—infrastructurere he said the community had not seen in half a century. “When I visit, I expect such achievements to be recognized,” he added.
Despite his criticism, President Barrow assured residents that the roads they requested are already included in his development plans. He emphasized that work will continue “step by step.”
The president also informed villagers that, through the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, a national project is underway that will support 2,340 women across the country.
Responding to criticism from the opposition, Barrow dismissed claims that he is inactive or disengaged, quipping that someone who is “sleepy” could not deliver the level of development his government has achieved. He stressed that he pays no attention to such accusations and instead listens to the citizens, whom he described as his “employers.”
President Barrow urged residents to remain patient, noting that development is a continuous process and that even the cheapest road construction costs D25 million per kilometer.
