The Gambia national team, the gallant Scorpions, leave town early this morning for Limbe, Cameroon to take part in the Africa Cup of Nations finals, the first time in history.

The team of 28 players will play in Group F against Mauritania on January 12, Mali on January 16 and Tunisia on January 20 for a place in the second round.

Last night, the team was received by President Barrow who handed over the traditional battle flag to the team with words of encouragement and inspiration.

Meanwhile, the government has released D90M to fill the funding gap of The Gambia’s Afcon programme, making it possible for the National Coordinating Committee, NCC, to hit its D117M target.
