Africa-Press – Gambia. President Adama Barrow has urged opposition parties to desist from sabotaging national development efforts and instead focus on formulating viable policies and programmes that could win them the presidency.
Speaking in Farafenni during his ongoing Meet-the-People tour, President Barrow said his government’s responsibility is to ensure that revenue collected from taxpayers is used for meaningful development that benefits all citizens. He expressed concern that opposition figures continue to politicise every achievement of his administration.
“If you construct roads, build schools or hospitals, provide water or electricity, and increase salaries, they politicise these improvements,” Barrow said. “Do we now have to put your taxes in our pockets and misappropriate them?” he asked the gathering.
The President noted that records from his 2016 campaign are still available, stressing that he had always been truthful to the electorate and never lied about his predecessor. He added that honesty and transparency would continue to guide his leadership.
President Barrow explained that the ongoing tour serves as a platform to assess the needs of citizens and guide government policy formulation, emphasising that it is a constitutional requirement rather than a political campaign.
“I am a servant of the Gambian people. All these developments are the fulfillment of my campaign promises,” he said.
He reiterates that it is time to remind the opposition that politics is not about sentiment or criticism, but about implementing sound policies and programmes to improve the lives of Gambians.
