Africa-Press – Gambia. President Adama Barrow has reiterated his government’s commitment to upholding law and order across The Gambia, warning that any attempts to destabilize the country—regardless of motive or affiliation—will be met with the full force of the law.
Speaking during his Eid address, President Barrow emphasized that the protection of life and property remains a constitutional duty of his administration. He also reaffirmed that transparency and accountability will continue to guide his government’s governance approach.
“My administration will remain sensitive and positively responsive to your concerns and aspirations. I assure you that accountability and transparency will continue to guide our governance approach. To this end in our fight against corruption, there will be no exemption or special treatment for anyone, and due process will be followed wherever wrongdoing is evidenced,” Barrow said.
He added: “Let me reaffirm as well that my government will fulfill its constitutional mandate to protect life and property by maintaining law and order throughout the Gambia. Any individual or group with the intention to destabilize the country under any pretext will face the full force of the law. We cannot condone any hidden agenda to undermine the peace and stability that we collectively worked so hard to achieve.”
The president also urged citizens and residents to uphold the rule of law and respect the democratic institutions that serve as the foundation of the country’s governance system.
“Our national institutions are the pillars upon which our Democratic governance stands and their independence and effectiveness are essential for national progress,” he stated.
President Barrow went on to express gratitude to Gambians for their continued commitment to peace and stability, which he credited as vital to the nation’s recent development gains.
“Your peaceful disposition has complimented my government’s efforts and created a conducive environment that allows for the meaningful and sustainable development initiatives in progress across the Gambia. We must never take peace for granted. Many nations around the world long for the peace and stability we currently enjoy without peace, development declines thus hindering progress. We must remember that the remarkable advancement recorded in the country are a direct result of our collective commitment to peaceful coexistence,” he noted.
