Batchily Submits Documents to Local Government Commission

Africa-Press – Gambia. Mustapha Batchily, former Chief Executive Officer of Banjul City Council (BCC), has submitted documents requested by the Local Government Commission of Inquiry.

The submission took place on Thursday, August 14, 2025, and included the following:

1. Banjul City Link Ostend project receipt of payment from Ecobank for the sum of twenty-three thousand, dated October 2024.

2. Receipt of payment for Haddijatou Jabang a trade license collector, for the sum of forty-one thousand, a repayment by Mr. Camara.

3. Renewals of contract files of contractors of Banjul City Council

4. Correspondences of advertisements of posts of Banjul City Council for different vacant positions.

5. BCC list of recipients of telephones and laptops for the EU project staff

6. Cash books maintained by Ebrima Bah and Ba Kawsu for the dump site in Banjul for the years 2023 and 2022

7. A bundle of 35 documents from the Jallong Kolong construction project, a bundle of 29 documents regarding the EU project contract, and 24 documents with regard to the Eco Farm project.

8. A handwritten document by the witness Mustapha Batchily titled Fencing of Banjul Dumpsite, but has no date or signature. He was informed that he cannot make much of the document, and he can provide any additional information on the issue.

The commission has given Batchily a deadline of next Tuesday to submit the remaining requested documents. Failure to comply will result in the commission assuming that he does not possess them. His request for an extension to Thursday was denied.

“You have been here for a very long time, and we have given you all the opportunities. We don’t have the luxury of time anymore, so it behooves you to do all you can to provide the documents we have asked you for, and for the ones you cannot produce, write to inform the commission,” Commission Chairperson Jainaba Bah instructed.

Other witnesses who have submitted documents include Alfusainey Gano, Ostend Project Manager, and Katim Touray, BCC Director of Planning.
