Africa-Press – Gambia. Mamat O. Cham, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of The Gambia, attended the inaugural African Chiefs of Defence Staff Summit (ACHODSS) held in Abuja, Nigeria, from 25th to 28th August 2025, according to a statement from the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF).
The summit, themed “Combating Contemporary Threats to Regional Peace and Security in Africa: The Role of Strategic Defence Collaboration,” convened 37 senior defence officials from across the continent. It focused on African-led solutions to pressing security challenges, including border management, counterterrorism, maritime security, the integration of artificial intelligence in defence operations, and innovative funding mechanisms through public-private partnerships (PPPs).
Key outcomes of the summit included a renewed commitment to regional collaboration and intelligence sharing, a strengthened focus on capacity building and interoperability, and the adoption of ACHODSS as an annual African Union-led event.
On the sidelines of the summit, CDS Cham held bilateral discussions with Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, to explore new avenues for defence cooperation. He also engaged with CEOs of Nigerian defence industries to examine PPP opportunities aimed at enhancing the GAF’s logistics and operational capabilities, the GAF noted in a Facebook post.

GAF reaffirmed its commitment to contributing to a united, resilient, and sustainable African defence architecture in pursuit of continental peace, security, and development.
