CDS Cham Promises Rapid Upgrading of Troops' Housing, other Facilities

Africa-Press – Gambia. Lieutenant General Mamat O.A. Cham, The Gambia’s Chief of Defence Staff, has pledged swift action to resolve critical challenges facing security forces during an immersive tour of military camps.

Visiting frontline bases in Njogon, Kerr Pateh, Farafenni, and Lamin Koto, CDS Cham confronted first-hand struggles such as overcrowded barracks, shortages of combat uniforms and boots, crumbling infrastructure, and limited patrol vehicles hampering defence operations.

Soldiers highlighted urgent needs, including perimeter fencing, renovated kitchens and bakeries, and reliable transport for rapid response missions.

CDS Cham, moved by the conditions, vowed immediate deployments of patrol vehicles and prioritised collaboration with his team to fast-track upgrade of infrastructure. “I’ve seen the realities on the ground,” he confirmed, saying: “We will address these gaps to boost morale and operational readiness.”

The tour underscores CDS Cham’s commitment to transforming military welfare and efficiency, ensuring troops are equipped to tackle The Gambia’s evolving security demands.
