Chief Mondo Jatta Dismisses Protests, Highlights Npp’S Strength

Africa-Press – Gambia. Chief Lamin Mondo Jatta of Brikama North has downplayed the significance of public demonstrations, asserting that such actions are inconsistent with Islamic teachings. Speaking at a recent event organized by the National People’s Party (NPP), Chief Jatta claimed that the companions of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) did not engage in protest, suggesting that democracy itself is not rooted in Islam.

“Democracy is not part of the Islamic religion. Anyone who dies in such acts will face hellfire,” he said.

Chief Jatta emphasized the political dominance of the NPP in The Gambia, describing the party as the largest and most influential political group in the country. “The NPP is the bigger group in The Gambia and cannot be defeated by small factions. If the majority also decides to mobilize, it will achieve its goals,” he warned.

He called for calm and national unity, urging citizens to respect authority and avoid actions that could provoke conflict. “Let us maintain peace, avoid inciting one another, and respect our leaders,” he advised.

Reflecting on the past, Chief Jatta criticized the era of former President Yahya Jammeh, accusing him of oppressing Gambians. “During Jammeh’s rule, all the men became women. No one dared speak up. It was only after he left that people found their voices,” he remarked.

He praised President Adama Barrow as an honest and patriotic leader who respects all citizens and is committed to both his faith and national development. Jatta cautioned that Gambians may come to regret not valuing Barrow’s leadership once he leaves office.

Concluding his remarks, Chief Jatta called on NPP supporters to ensure that the party continues to lead the country beyond President Barrow’s tenure.
