Africa-Press – Gambia. Brikama Nyambai Ward Councillor, Momodou Jawo Jallow, has donated football equipment to seven local teams participating in the Brikama Sports Committee Summer Nawettan.
The handover ceremony took place on Thursday at the Brikama Area Council grounds. Councillor Jallow said the donation aims to support the teams’ preparations for the football season.
The beneficiary teams are Dreamers FC of Jalambang, Jaliba United, Diamond Boys, Scovil FC, Puntalana FC, Jambar Sanneh FC, and Nema United. Each team received a set of jerseys, markers, bibs, five footballs, and a ball pump.
“We are doing this to help address some of the challenges our teams face,” Councillor Jallow stated. “Many of them lack the financial strength to meet their basic needs. Some teams have gone years without proper jerseys. To help close these gaps, we decided to give back to the youth, using resources allocated through the Brikama Area Council. We are not taking personal credit for this—it is made possible through the taxes our mothers and community members pay daily. That’s why I urge everyone to become advocates for the council by encouraging tax compliance. Without taxes, the council cannot achieve its development goals.”
Brikama Area Council Chairman, Yankuba Darboe, praised Councillor Jallow’s initiative, highlighting its importance in youth development.
“Too often, the significance of this kind of support for young people is overlooked,” Darboe said. “But it’s extremely important. Many young players in our local leagues aspire to become professionals. They need support to pursue those dreams, and this donation is a meaningful step in that direction.”
