Africa-Press – Gambia. Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have arrested Ebrima Sonko, 38, alleged notorious drug dealer of Kombo South. According to the DLEAG, Ebrima Sonko is said to be among the most notorious dealers and distributors of illicit substances in West Coast Region.

“Though he engages in the dealing and trafficking of different types of illicit drugs, he is said to be mainly engaged in the trafficking, dealing and distribution of cannabis related illicit products. His nefarious activity was halted on the 30 April 2022 around 16:10 hours GMT onwards when DLEAG operatives from our Brikama field office clutched him with ten (10) big bundles, twenty-one (21) parcels and some quantities of suspected cannabis sativa at his residence in Sare Bigi village – Kombo South District, West Coast Region.

“The bundles, parcels and some quantities of the seized suspected cannabis sativa were all wrapped with cement papers. He concealed the said drugs by placing the bundles in an iron barrel, the parcels in a yellow Armanti mayonnaise bucket and some quantities in a multi colour bag. He is presently in custody while operatives’ further probe into his matter,” the DLEAG said.

“We use this opportunity to put on notice those adamantly engaged in the trafficking, distribution and dealing of prohibited and controlled drugs. We call on them to immediately cease and desist from such nefarious activities. Their conduct, dealings and activities undermine the moral and social fabrics of our society in addition to the huge implications and impact on the health, economic and social wellbeing of people and society.

“The business model, concept and capital they invest in such illicit trade and illegitimate activities can be better utilized and invested in legitimate businesses that will add to the socio-economic development of our nation.

“If they do not desist, they should know that their days are numbered because in addition to the operational activities aimed at abating the open abuse of drugs, the Agency will intensify its intelligence led operations targeting dealers and traffickers. We therefore call for public support and participation in this noble crusade by sharing information and reporting suspicious drug related and criminal activities to law enforcement officers. Help us keep your community healthy, safe, and secure and drug free by giving us information and holding us to task,” the office the DLEAG added.
