The spokesperson for APRC, one of the opposition parties in the country, has accused the administration of President Adama Barrow of not concerned about living condition of people of the Gambia, but only concerned of wining the upcoming presidential elections in 2021.
Speaking to The Voice exclusively, Dodou Jah urged President Barrow to come and face the nation’s daily problems rather than hiding in State House.
“As a leader you don’t just limited yourself inside by hiding in the office, but you should go out and be in the midst of the people, visit markets to know the price of goods, that will really help to equate to people lives, especially the poor,” he said.
“The president,” according to him, “must get to the public, to know what the people are feeling in term of high standard of living in the country which is extra expensive.”
He noted that rent system is getting unbearable now in the country, as house owners and demanding six months, one year or more from tenants as pre-payment before they would be allowed to rent and pack into it.
“If not for the help and support of the Diasporas, many Gambians would be homeless, this are issues government is paying less attention to and people are suffering,” he lamented.
According to him, the government should build estates for the poor citizens of the country because there are vast lands in the country, “but everything is left in the hands of the agents who are exploiting people, rents are expensive, salaries cannot upkeep people and schools are expensive as well.”
He added that “This is definitely disheartening whiles government is just busy politicking, to be honest they must go back to the drawing board and care for Gambians, the people deserve the best as they make the government of the day, so therefore they should be given back.”
