Africa-Press – Gambia. Excellence Football Academy have emerged champions of the 2025 Afriskaut-Gambia Football Academy National U-17 League following a dramatic final round of matches held on Sunday at the National Technical Training Centre in Yundum.
Excellence FA secured the title after a crucial 2-1 win over Lahaiba FA, while title hopefuls Universal FA suffered a shock 3-1 defeat to Gifts FA. The results saw Excellence FA finish level on 22 points with defending champions KGH Sports Academy but clinch the title on superior head-to-head record.
Universal FA entered the final round leading the table by a single point, needing a win to seal the title. Their prolific forward, Jarga Mbowe, gave them a dream start with an early goal in the first minute. But Gifts FA’s Buba Trawally responded in style, netting a stunning hat-trick to hand Universal a costly defeat and cap a thrilling final day.
Elsewhere, KGH Sports Academy comfortably beat Banjul FA 4-1 at the Gambinos Complex in Mandinary, with a brace from Hamidou Faye and goals from Kabiro Ceesay and Alieu Jallow. Despite the win, KGH were edged into second place by Excellence FA.
Gifts FA, who finished third with 21 points, proved to be the league’s surprise package, finishing just a point behind the joint leaders. Universal FA and Mayas FA followed in fourth and fifth respectively with 20 points each, while Kids With Talents FA ended sixth on 19 points.
Lahaiba FA and Menmar Sporting FA were seventh and eighth with 16 points each. L.K. City FA finished on 11 points, followed by Hacken Fankanta FA with 9, Banjul FA on 8, and Afia Banjul FA, who ended bottom with just 2 points.
This year’s tightly contested league featured 12 academies and was organized by the Gambia Football Federation in partnership with Afriskaut and the Gambia Football Academy Association (GFAA).
