Africa-Press – Gambia. Ding-Ding Yiriwa Federation, a Non-Governmental Organization recently presented borehole and learning materials worth over six hundred thousand dalasi (D600,000) to Wulinkama Nursery School.
The donation which is geared towards providing safe portable drinking water and comfortable learning space for the school children is made through collaboration with Child Fund The Gambia.
Omar Sanneh, Board Chairperson of the federation, applauded Child Fund the Gambia for funding the project, stating that it will go a long way in providing easy and conducive leaning environment for children.
He further points out that, Ding-Ding Yiriwa Federation as children and youth development agency working in the development and protection of children will continue to execute on its core mandate as child friendly agency.
“We are very much grateful of the project,” he says, adding that as a board they will work and express the commitment of the federation in ensuring the wellbeing of youths and children.
Bubacarr Jammeh, sponsorship specialist at Child Fund the Gambia, speaking on behalf of the country director, reminded the gathering of the need for community initiatives in funding sustainable livelihoods projects for themselves, saying that as most international donor partners to Child Fund the Gambia are running into financial stress.
He also advised the beneficiary school to take a good care of the donated borehole, while emphasizing the importance of project impact and sustainability.
Alieu Mendy, Manager of Ding-Ding Yiriwa Federation, also thanked the donor partners for working with Ding-Ding Yiriwa Federation over the years, revealing that the federation was now a fully registered Non-profit organization working towards protecting and improving the lives of children and youths within communities.
He added that the presentation of teaching and learning materials would equally boost morals of both the staff and children of the beneficiary school.
Fatou Barrow, the headmistress of the school also expressed delight at Child Fund the Gambia, and Ding-Ding Yiriwa Federation for providing the school with clean and portable drinking water including teaching and learning materials. “We are very much appreciative of your kind gesture to the school, and I can tell you that this will provide a safe and conducive learning space for our children and students,” she reiterated.
