Africa-Press – Gambia. Africa’s creative economy is receiving a significant boost as Filmmakers Mart (FMM), a Nigeria-based digital platform connecting filmmakers with trusted production services—from location scouting to logistics—has secured investment from the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Sony Innovation Fund Africa.
This marks IFC’s first-ever investment in Africa’s audiovisual sector, as well as the first co-investment by the two organizations in this space. Already operational in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, and South Africa, FMM plans to use the funding to expand into new markets, launch post-production tools, and provide training for more creators.
FMM aims to become the “operating system for creative industries in emerging markets” by leveraging AI to automate workflows and increase access to reliable service providers, according to CEO Eric Kafui Okyerefo.
With Sony’s involvement, FMM gains a global edge, benefiting from their expertise in content distribution and international networks. This backing highlights growing investor confidence in Africa’s storytelling talent and the infrastructure required to support its growth.
