Africa-Press – Gambia. Recognizing the vital role cultural groups play in preserving and promoting The Gambia’s heritage, Flex Fuzion Entertainment and Dance Academy has empowered six cultural groups through a targeted entrepreneurship and performance skills training program.

The initiative aims to enhance participants’ skills and pave the way for a more sustainable creative industry in The Gambia.

Speaking on the significance of the training, NdeyFatouJabang, CEO of Flex Fuzion Entertainment and Dance Academy, noted that this marks the fifth cohort of the initiative.

The program, held recently at NACCUG, was funded by the European Union Youth Empowerment Project – Tourism and Creative Industries, which seeks to bridge gaps within the cultural sector, particularly in entrepreneurship.

NdeyFatouJabang stated that 60 participants from six cultural groups were selected for the four-day intensive training. She described the program as vital to both the livelihoods of the participants and the growth of The Gambia’s creative sector.

“The training covered key areas such as entrepreneurship, marketing, communication, and stage performance,” she said. “Participants were also guided on how to formalize their work, ensuring their contributions to the cultural sector are recognized and sustainable.”

She further highlighted the challenges many cultural groups face, including limited support, lack of formal registration, and inadequate capacity in business and performance skills.

This initiative, she emphasized, aims to change that narrative by equipping cultural practitioners with the tools they need to thrive creatively and economically.
