Africa-Press – Gambia. Pa Demba Sanneh, the National Assembly member for Foni Bondali, has warned voters in Bantanjang Ward that electing the ruling National People’s Party candidate in next week’s by-election would amount to choosing party loyalty over local representation.
Speaking on the campaign trail as the January 10 contest approaches, Mr. Sanneh argued that an NPP victory would place the interests of the governing party above those of the community. He accused party officials of branding their opponents in the APRC-No-To-Alliance as deceivers, a charge he forcefully rejected.
“The biggest deceiver is the NPP,” Mr. Sanneh said, pointing to what he described as a record of broken promises in the constituency.
He reminded residents that the NPP won Foni Bondali during the 2021 presidential election, campaigning on pledges that, he said, remain largely unfulfilled. “Have they fulfilled any of those promises? No, they have not,” he said. “If they are now asking you to vote for their candidate to fulfill the same promises, you should know they are deceiving you.”
Using a local proverb, Mr. Sanneh suggested that allegiance to the ruling party would limit independent decision-making. “If someone lends you an eye, you will only see where that person wants you to see,” he said. An NPP councilor, he added, would be obliged to follow party directives rather than the will of voters.
