Africa-Press – Gambia. Yahya Tamba, former chairman of the APRC “No to Alliance” movement, has announced the establishment of the National Alliance for Reconciliation and Development (NARD)—a new political movement gearing up for the 2026 presidential election.
Speaking on Sunday, October 12, 2025, Tamba said NARD is currently being launched as a movement in preparation, rather than a fully registered political party.
“NARC was born from the pain of our people and the conviction that the Gambia must rise again. For too long, our nation has suffered from corruption, insecurity, poverty, and tribal division. Our civil service, once the pride of Africa, has fallen into inefficiency and ill-discipline,” Tamba declared.
He lamented that crimes in the country often go unpunished while ordinary citizens continue to struggle to make ends meet.
Tamba emphasized that NARD’s mission is rooted in reconciliation, accountability, and national healing, stressing that corruption and impunity must end for the country to move forward.
According to him, the movement’s key objectives include promoting national unity and reconciliation by restoring the traditional role of elders, religious leaders, tribal heads, and community structures as cornerstones of peace, dialogue, and social cohesion.
“To uphold the dignity, diversity, and harmony of the Gambian people, recognizing the equal values of all tribes, languages, and religions is essential to our shared national identity.”
Tamba added that the reconciliation he envisions is not about compensation but about mending divisions among Gambians. “Gambians must reconcile.“
He further appealed to the youth to support NARD’s mission, describing them as central to the country’s renewal and liberation from “horror, intimidation, arrests, torture, and loss.”
“This is a party that belongs to the youth and women and the Gambians at large,” he said.
